How long do you want to be loved?

Before we were adopting Little J there was one song that would make me cry whenever I heard it. It was "Blessed Be" sung by Alison Kraus and written by Raffi, and it's on the "Country Goes Raffi" album, which I listened to a lot because Big J really liked the song "Baby Beluga" and made me listen to it over and over and over again in the car.

"Blessed Be" goes like this:

Baby dear, blessed be your shining light
Baby dear, blessed by your morning smile
Baby dear, blessed be your gleaming eyes
Blessed be this precious child
Our beloved baby dear...

Etc. etc. I don't want to get in trouble for copyright infringement, but it goes on like that about loving and dreaming and hoping. It's very, very sweet. I couldn't make it through without getting all teary-eyed and sappy. I remember a couple of times sitting in Big J's preschool parking lot trying to calm myself down!

Well, then we got Little J and although he was kindof sortof a baby, he wasn't really a gentle fellow and all fantasies of a sweet little cuddle bunny flew out the window.

But now I have a new song about the boys I love - my husband, Big J, and Little J. It's that Dixie Chick's song, "Lullaby." This song is so beautiful, again - I can't get through a listen without bawling.

Here are some of the lyrics:

They didn't have you where I come from
Never knew the best was yet to come
Life began when I saw your face
And I hear your laugh like a serenade

How long do you want to be loved
Is forever enough, is forever enough
How long do you want to be loved
Is forever enough
Cause I'm never, never giving you up

I slip in bed when you're asleep
To hold you close and feel your breath on me
Tomorrow there'll be so much to do
So tonight I'll drift in a dream with you

Wow. I can't even read the lyrics without tearing up. I think the best thing about this song is that it applies to all my boys - my husband and my kids. It just depends how I think about them.

There's another Dixie Chicks song that I love to cry to - it's called "Godspeed (Sweet Dreams)" and it is a bedtime lullaby, too:

Dragon tales and the "water is wide"
Pirate's sail and lost boys fly
Fish bite moonbeams every night
And I love you

Godspeed, little man
Sweet dreams, little man
Oh my love will fly to you each night on angels wings
Godspeed
Sweet dreams

The rocket racer's all tuckered out
Superman's in pajamas on the couch
Goodnight moon, we'll find the mouse
And I love you

Ok, this is a great post! I have one song that I just LOVE and the lyrics make me think of my kids even though I know it was meant to be a love song for a couple. The words...

BEAUTIFUL IN MY EYES
(Joshua Kadison)

You're my peace of mind in this crazy world.
You're everything I've tried to find.
Your love is a pearl.
You're my Mona Lisa, you're my rainbow skies,
and my only prayer is that you realize
you'll always be beautiful in my eyes.

You will always be beautiful in my eyes.
And the passing years will show
that you will always grow
ever more beautiful in my eyes.

The world will turn and the seasons will change,
and all the lessons we will learn
will be beautiful and strange.
We'll have our fill of tears, our share of sighs,
My only prayer is that you realize
you'll always be beautiful in my eyes.

You will always be beautiful in my eyes.
And the passing years will show
that you will always grow
ever more beautiful in my eyes.

When there are lines upon my face
from a lifetime of smiles,
when the time comes to embrace
for one long last while:
we can laugh about how time really flies.
We won't say goodbye 'cause true love never dies:
you'll always be beautiful in my eyes.

You will always be beautiful in my eyes.
And the passing years will show
that you will always grow
ever more beautiful in my eyes.

ok, hope I do not get in trouble for the copyright thing either.... ;)
